Mary's "Tiny" Purses

So I had a very fun Saturday sewing with my friend Mary. She wanted to make a tiny purse to force herself to leave the "extras" behind and carry only the essentials. Well during the fabric shopping process she found too many fabric designs that she loved and ended up want to make two purses. The purses ended up being a shorter version of clutch with a long strap.

Mary did all of the designing/cutting and I did the sewing. Check out her cute purses!

We made a card holder to match the green/black purse! So cute!

And finally!!!!! Here is Mary with all of her great new stuff (including the EXTRA long coin purse)!

PS - Love the attitude Mary brings in this photo!

Shadowbox Project

My sister came across some old...not that old...embroidered "things". Not sure what they were, but they looked like this.

She wanted to mount them inside an 8"x8" shadow box. We needed to make them a little bigger, so I thought we could add some color coordinating fabric around the edges.

Got everything all trimmed up and here is the final product!

My sis loved he shadow boxes and is super excited to hang them up in her room. The awesome thing is that we took something old and made it super cute!

Have a great week!

Lauren's Clutch

My friend Lauren was needing a new clutch so we got busy! She picked out the fabric (from my limited stash) and we went to town on creating her a new clutch that matched her style and hopefully suites all her needs!

Here is Lauren with her completed clutch! It turned out super cute!

Boy was it fun to have a couple of crafting buddies. Becky took off before I had a chance to photograph her clover clutch which was inspired by her love for Irish EVERYTHING.

Here are some of the details of Lauren's...

Hope you had a good weekend. Mine was slightly exhausting...

Weekend Fun!

In addition to spending a lot of time over the last two weekends working in the yard, I have done a smidge of crafting.

First, here is proof that I have actually been working in the yard. I snapped a quick photo of the daffodils blooming in my front yard. I love this time of year because the daffodils, followed by the tulips, pop up all over my neighborhood!

First blooms of the season!
I spent some time washing, drying, ironing, and putting away lots of fabric this weekend, but managed to take some time to make some more bottle cap earrings. (Stella Artois and Shiner Bock for Mary and SKA for someone that requested them on Etsy!)

Then I really had fun and made some earrings out of the new fabric that I bought from Hip Stitch! These are just recycled tin or plastic with the fabric on one or both sides. I really loved these and am so excited to show them off!

I made this pair with the "dark chocolate" nutritional facts exposed to show off the recycled tin!

This pair is made out of #2 plastic with the fabric on both sides. These are the most lightweight earrings I have ever made! You can hardly feel them when they are on.

Hope you had a good weekend, I sure did! All this crafting is really turning me in to a homebody good thing I have several reasons to be out and about next week!

Have a great week!

Zig Zag, UGH!

So I wasn't going to reveal my crappy sewing job that I did on my first round of cloth napkins for the Sewing Guild swap (see previous blog). But maybe someone could shed some light on why my bottom stitch looks awful.

Two of my "original" napkins had mitered corners, see first photo, and since I had pre-ironed all of my corners, they turned out ok.

I literally NEVER turned the napkins over during my sewing to check out my bottom stitch, when I did, I found this....an awful zig zag every few inches.

This stitching reminded me toooo much of a heart monitor screen that I couldn't possibly swap these at the Sewing Guild meeting so I cut all of the edges off...

Cloth Napkins

We did a cloth napkin exchange at the sewing guild meeting last night. It was a lot of fun except I basically made my napkins twice and didn't finish until 11:00 Monday night! I didn't post a photo of them because after making them once 20x20 and hating them, cutting them down to 16x16, and making them again, I was SICK of looking at them.

Instead, I am posting a photo of the awesome napkins my friend Kerrie made. Since we were the only two that participated in the exchange, we just swapped with each other. And it was not much of a surprise, since we each had already showed off our napkins to each other.

Mandie wasn't up for finishing her napkins so she passed them off to me. Not the easiest fabric to try and miter corners with, but at least I am trying! Will bring 'em next time Mandie! Just in case you are interested in making some cloth napkins, Skip To My Lou has a great tutorial here!

I picked up this cute deep blue owl fabric a few weeks ago and made a zipper clutch. Will be posting this on my Etsy site soon!

Happy HumpDay!

It's Getting Warm Outside!

A few weeks ago, I discovered the wonderful world of Spin Class. This incredibly intense cycling class will kick your butt! I have gone to about 6 or 7 classes and completely love it. It is a hard core work out that makes me feel accomplished after an hour. Well it has started to warm up and my bike has been calling my name. I have never been a big time cyclist but last year when I was choosing a new bike, I fell in love with this one (mine has a handle bar basket)...

If you are convinced that biking around town is not for you, you have never sat on a bike like this. It very comfy (especially the seat) and is as smooth as silk to ride. Also, a bike with gears is a must! I can't imagine people that try to ride fixed speed bikes in Albuquerque! UGH! Yay for getting outside and riding your bike. With the gas prices these days...you can't go wrong on your bike! Have an active weekend! Burn calories, not gas!

Wear Your Beer!

No silly...not on your shirt! If you know me very well, you know that I love beer. Not just any old beer, microbrews are my favorite. I started making and wearing beer cap earrings. Here is a little collection of caps that I have.

Once I have hammered them flat, drilled a tiny hole in the top, and added a fairly large jump ring, they look like this.

Now I pick out some matching beads and put the rest of the earring together. I absolutely love this black cap from Breckenridge Brewery with a wood turquoise bead.

I have a pair of these lovely Marble Brewery earrings. The green pearl goes perfect!

The earring that I have made the most of, wear the most, love the most, and get the most compliments is the Santa Fe Brewing pair. These just plain ROCK!

All of these are on my Etsy site!

Have a great night!
